Salicylate measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of salicylate overdose and in monitoring salicylate levels to ensure appropriate therapy.
Salicylates are a class of analgesic, antipyretic and anti‑inflammatory drugs that includes aspirin.
Therapeutic range: < 30 mg/dL (< 2.2 mmol/L)
Toxic range: > 35 mg/dL (> 2.5 mmol/L)
Persons not on salicylate therapy have no salicylate in their serum. The expected values are expressed in terms of therapeutic range, which serves only as a guide for interpretation along with other clinical signs and symptoms.
Millimole per liter | mmol/L = mM/L = millimol/L |
Milligram per liter | mg/L = millig/L = milligram/L = mg/liter |
Milligram per deciliter | mg/dL = millig/dL = milligram/dL |
Milligram per 100 milliliters | mg/100mL = millig/100mL = milligram/100mL |
